# License and billing

> Compare the BucketMate Web trial and Pro, activate a license key, and manage devices and billing

BucketMate Web starts on a free trial. Activate a Pro license key to remove the trial limits. The sidebar badge shows **Trial** or **Pro**. Select it to open **Settings > General**.

When you reach a trial limit, BucketMate Web shows a dialog that explains the limit and lets you activate Pro.

## Buy a license

1. Open **Settings > General**.
2. Choose **Manage License**.
3. Choose **Purchase Pro** to open the pricing page.

A Web license works in BucketMate Web. A Universal license works in both the macOS app and BucketMate Web. Each license has a device activation limit, and each browser profile counts as one device.

## Activate a license key

1. Open **Settings > General**.
2. Choose **Manage License**.
3. Paste your key in **Activate License Key**.
4. Choose **Activate**.

The **License** section then shows your plan as Pro, with the license name and expiration date if it has one.

BucketMate Web checks the license again each time the app loads. If the check fails because the key is invalid, BucketMate Web switches back to the trial and shows "Your Pro license is not valid." Choose **Review license** to open the license settings.

## Device limit reached

If activation fails with **Device limit reached**, remove another device from the license and try again.

1. Open the [license manager](https://bucketmate.app/license).
2. Sign in with the email you used at checkout and enter the 6-digit code.
3. Under **Devices**, choose **Remove** next to a device you no longer use.
4. Activate the key again in BucketMate Web.

## Manage billing

- On Pro, choose **Manage** in **Settings > General** to open the Polar customer portal.
- On the trial, choose **License Portal** in **Manage License** to open the same portal.
- In the [license manager](https://bucketmate.app/license), you can also reveal your license key and choose **Open billing portal** for invoices and receipts.
