Install the BucketMate Proxy extension, check its status, and fix extension errors in BucketMate Web

BucketMate Web needs the companion extension BucketMate Proxy to reach your storage provider. BucketMate Web signs each S3 request in the page, then the extension sends it to the provider endpoint. Because the request does not come from the web page, you do not need to add CORS rules to your buckets.

Install the extension

  1. Open the browser extension guide.
  2. Install BucketMate Proxy for your browser. Store builds exist for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox.
  3. Open or refresh BucketMate Web.
  4. Check that the extension status shows Connected.

BucketMate Web checks for the extension when the page loads. If you install the extension while BucketMate Web is open, refresh the page.

Check the extension status

You can check the status in two places:

  • The Browser extension section of the welcome guide. Open it again from Settings > General > Onboarding guide > Open Guide.
  • Settings > Advance > Extension bridge, which shows Connected or Disconnected and the last error.

When the extension is not detected, BucketMate Web shows a banner: "Companion browser extension is not connected." Choose Configure to open Settings > Advance. Use Open Guideline there to open the install guide.

Review proxied requests

Click the BucketMate Proxy icon in the browser toolbar to open its request log.

  • Total, Success, and Errors count recent requests.
  • Each entry shows the HTTP method, status code, host, path, time, and duration.
  • Refresh reloads the list.
  • Clear removes the log.

The extension keeps the last 80 requests in extension storage. It does not store request headers, credentials, or file contents.

Where the extension works

The extension only connects to BucketMate Web at https://web.bucketmate.app. It can forward requests to any http:// or https:// storage endpoint.

Troubleshooting

Extension is disconnected

  1. Confirm BucketMate Proxy is installed and enabled in your browser's extension settings.
  2. Refresh BucketMate Web.
  3. Check Settings > Advance > Extension bridge.

"Proxy extension not detected"

BucketMate Web could not reach the extension before sending a request. Enable the extension, then refresh the page.

"Proxy extension did not respond"

A request took longer than 2 minutes. Check your network connection and the provider endpoint, then try again. Very large uploads can also take this long.

"BucketMate Proxy only supports HTTP and HTTPS storage endpoints"

The endpoint URL uses an unsupported scheme. Edit the connection and use an endpoint that starts with https:// or http://.

Requests fail with provider errors

Open the extension request log and check the status code for the failed request. A 403 usually means the access key lacks permission. A 301 usually means the region or endpoint does not match the bucket.
