Preview, share, and edit files
Use inline preview, Quick Look, file details, presigned links, share history, and quick edit in BucketMate
BucketMate helps you inspect files before downloading them and share objects without leaving the app.
Preview files
BucketMate supports preview workflows for common file types:
- Inline preview panel
- Quick Look preview
- Image preview
- Text preview
- PDF preview
Select a supported file and use the preview action, Space, or the context menu. You can turn inline preview on or off in Settings > General.
View file details
Use View detail to inspect object metadata without leaving the file list.
Details can include:
- Full object key
- File name
- Size
- Type
- Modified date
- Storage class
- Object URL
- Custom-domain URL
Open files
Use Open to download a temporary copy and open it with the default macOS app. BucketMate can show a warning before opening or previewing files. Change this in Settings > General.
Quick edit text files
For supported text files, use Edit file to make a quick change and upload it back to the same object key.
Use this for small text-based files like configuration files, JSON, YAML, logs, and plain text. For larger edits or unsupported file types, download the file, edit it locally, then upload it again.
Create share links
BucketMate can create presigned URLs for objects.
- Select a file.
- Choose Share or Create share link.
- Enter a duration in minutes, hours, or days.
- Copy the generated URL.
Most S3 providers limit presigned URLs to 7 days. BucketMate warns when the selected duration is longer and caps the link duration.
Share-link history
BucketMate stores created share links in local history so you can copy or open them later.
History entries can include:
- URL
- File name
- Bucket
- Object key
- Connection
- Creation time
- Expiration time
- Duration
Use Settings > Shared Links to search history, copy a previous URL, open it, delete one entry, or clear the history.
Revoking share links
Removing an item from share-link history does not revoke the link. A presigned URL remains valid until it expires.
To invalidate a link before expiration, rename the object, delete the object, or rotate the credentials used to create the link.
Copy direct URLs
Besides presigned links, BucketMate can copy direct object URLs and custom-domain URLs. Direct URLs work only when the object and bucket are publicly reachable through that URL.
